Fans turned on Sky Sports presenter David Tanner after he made comments about the lad during half time coverage of the Inverness vs Celtic match at Caledonian Stadium.
In footage widely shared on social media David says: «Oh the boy’s got his shirt off. Look at that madman.
«It’s not Wee Jay is it?»
Jay, 12, became a legend at Celtic after striker Georgios Samaras paraded him around the pitch after their 2014 league title win.
He is an ambassador for the club and has met a string of international stars including pop singer Paolo Nutini and Barcelona legend Lionel Messi.
Some Twitter users were furious at Tanner’s comment with many calling for him to be booted off television.
“Disgusting comments from David Tanner when he thought no-one was listening”
One wrote: «Was David Tanner trying to be funny? Please ask the commentator to explain?»
And another commented: «Disgusting comments from David Tanner when he thought no-one was listening. Let’s get this trending.»
And a third added: «You can tell your employee David Tanner that I heard him insulting little Jay Beatty. He should be sacked on the spot.»
But others felt that he did nothing wrong, with one writing: «That Tanner thing is complete nonsense. People need to stop being offended all the time.»
Another commented: «I just heard it there. To me the two statements aren’t linked. C***s just want him sacked because he’s a banger.»
Tanner is a TV legend in Scotland and was allegedly unaware of being filmed when he made the comments.
Celtic beat Inverness 4-0 in the clash and are now a staggering 27 points ahead of second place Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership.
Sky commentators Andy Gray and Richard Keys were sacked from the company in 2011.
Keys was caught saying the «game’s gone mad» when the Premier League announced a female linesman and Gray was sacked for making a crude comment to fellow commentator Charlotte Jackson.
Daily Star Online have reached Sky and the Down’s Syndrome Association UK for comment.
